2024 Canadian Airports Safety Week
This year Canadian Airports Safety Week 2024 will take place September 23 - 27. Canadian Airports Safety Week is a national airport-led initiative that promotes healthy and safe work practices among airport employees.
The person traps at Non-Passenger Screening - Terminal (NPS-T) are a security access control system designed to allow access to one person at a time while preventing tailgating or piggybacking. They are often referred to by their product name TDaR (Tailgate Detection and Reporting).
Using the system correctly can prevent delays and enhance your access experience.
YLW RAICs will give you access to Non-Passenger Screening (NPS) points. All passes must be prominently displayed while working in the restricted area. Any questions please contact 250-807-4345 or visit the YLW Pass Office.
Print this how to poster and place in your lunch rooms.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: This is the groundside entrance to the access doors. These doors are also used as exits from airside so look through the view port and ensure the chamber is empty before use. | ![]() |

Step 2: Take hats off. Enter slowly and stand erect. Keep your arms down. The system is looking from above for one person, so anything increasing your size will trigger the alarm. If your entry is denied slowly exit and try again. |
Step 3: Stand tall and straight leaving some space between you and the fingerprint reader, touch your RAIC to the reader sensor and then present your fingerprint. | ![]() |

Step 4: OR - touch your RAIC to the iris reader and adjust the camera height so you can stand back in the chamber. When access is approved the groundside door locks and the airside door unlocks (you may or may not hear a click). Open the airside door and enter NPS-T for screening. |
Step 5: If you have difficulty you can call for assistance using the intercom button. You must use the intercom to escort visitors into NPS-T. See the Security Post in Arrivals area to pre-arrange visitor access. | ![]() |

This month passengers will see changes to parking in long-term lot A, restricted access into the terminal building from the south end of the building, and demolition work will start in the security screening area. Throughout this three-year construction project, there will be additional temporary impacts to existing amenities in the departures lounge. Guests to YLW should expect minor changes to how they move through the terminal building and may experience some construction noise.
