Springing Into Travel

The ever-popular Spring Travel event will take place at Kelowna International Airport (YLW) on Feb. 28 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The annual event attracts thousands of local residents who come to learn about what’s new and exciting in terms of spring and summer vacation options.

“We love hosting this event,” says Jenelle Hynes, YLW Business Development and Community Relations. “This is a great opportunity to explore travel options from YLW as well as to learn just how easy it is to explore Canada, the U.S. and the world for that matter with one of our non-stop flights or with as little as one connection. With the airlines serving YLW and their code share partners, the possibilities of booking an amazing travel adventure from YLW is endless.”

The event is also popular because of a wonderful line-up of travel prizes that are up for grabs. Thanks to Air Canada, which recently announced daily service on its new leisure airline Air Canada rouge to Toronto beginning in June, has provided airline tickets for two to Europe.

Air North, Yukon’s airline providing year-round twice-a-week service to Whitehorse, has provide a prize package that includes tickets for two to Whitehorse and three nights hotel stay for a Yukon adventure.

Those who enter the draw in turn give back to the community, with all proceeds from this event being donated to a local charity. This year the event’s charity of choice is East Meets West Orphan’s Foundation ( ww.eastmeetswestorphansfoundation.org/ ), a charitable organization founded locally that provides medical treatment and educational training for abandoned and destitute children in Kolkata, India. It finances children with necessary medical care and surgical procedures and provides education and life-skills training for children living in orphanages in developing nations. Members of the Foundation’s board will be in attendance to provide further information on what this organization has achieved since its establishment in 2008.

Prize ballots will be available at the draw table: $5 for one, $10 for three and $20 for six chances to win. The draw for all prizes awarded by YLW will be made at 3 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 28. You do not have to be at the airport at the time of the draw. The airport will notify all winners by telephone and then post on its Facebook page .

Free parking is provided in the long-term parking lot during event hours, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees are required to bring in their parking voucher to be validated at the event.
